October 2015 - From the Captain’s Chair

We are honored with the overwhelming reaction to our latest STAR TREK CONTINUES episode, “Divided We Stand.”  If you’ve watched the episode on YouTube or at STARTREKCONTINUES.com, then you know some exceptional effort went into the first “outside the studio” shoot.  Read more about how we delivered on Civil War authenticity this month, as well as a question-and-answer interview with Chuck “Dr. McCoy” Huber.

While many fans have enjoyed watching our latest episode, we also know that behind-the-scenes extras area always very popular.  So we’ve unlocked our Episode V Gag Reel for everyone to enjoy.  It’s not easy to shoot a whole episode in just a few days,  but it’s made easier by a team that is very comfortable with their roles and fun to be around.

And we’ve got big news for Episode VI, in this edition of our newsletter.  It’s never too late to donate to keep new STAR TREK CONTINUES episodes coming on a regular basis.  We welcome your contributions through PayPal:

Thanks for what you do to help us spread the word about STAR TREK CONTINUES as we prepare for the big 50th anniversary of the most iconic series in TV history.

I was there back in '66 when Enterprise first flew on network TV and have been a LONG TIME Trekker ever since. With all the hoopla surrounding the next Trek movie, I have to admit I'm MORE excited about the next episode of this great series than with the re-imagined/changed movie. The production standard of Star Trek Continues is high as is the acting and production value of cast and crew...and it's just plain fun and entertaining to watch!!! To Vic and the cast...consider doing the unshot episode "Joanna," which was described in the "Making of Star Trek" book, involving McCoy's now grown up daughter from his failed marriage visiting Enterprise and becoming involved with Kirk. McCoy now is conflicted as a protective father who sees his friend and captain in a different light...run with this storyline! Can't wait for episodes 6, 7, 8, 9.....................

Tim ... well said on being more excited about the next STC than the next studio re-imagined movie that tosses all prior continuity in the trash. 100% agreed.

Vic, I am continuously overwhelmed by you're efforts and the results. Similarly my parents divorced when I was merely a child of 10. That was 1973. So falling in love with TOS was easy. Thank you for bringing me back to the joy I felt watching the show as a boy.

Just wanted to take a moment to let you know that I grew up on TOS as a child, and still growing up with STC! You guys are fantastic, the shows are very reminiscent of the originals, and a hearty thank you to the crew. I know it takes a lot of time and effort for you guys to do this, but for those of us who grew up with TOS, it is greatly appreciated. May STC Live Long and Prosper!

I found your series by accident on youtube. WOW I was shocked to see other actors IN Star Trek TOS. Huh??? Your execution of this is flawless...how the heck did you get all the sets perfect like that? Did you all study the blueprints that came out in 1975 or 76 or so? Maybe that was a clue how to execute this show......

This was a fantastic episode. Since I am such a fan of Doctor McCoy, it was great to see him come to the fore here, and in an ever-maturing performance from Chuck Huber. I can't believe this series exists, and I just wish you guys could get out 13 a year! Thanks so much for putting all this effort and love ito a fantastic project.

I thoroughly enjoy the Star Trek Continues teams efforts. In Episode V when you are working on the computer interfaces I love the use of old computer boards. I think I may even have one that you pictured in the film! Take care and thank you for your efforts.

Wow, I so enjoyed watching! I can't wait for more episodes! This is so much better than any of the new Star Trek movies. I love it! Thanks so much!!

I have watched all the previous episodes and a part of ep 5, but will wait to share it properly with a friend in a few days time. I think that ST:C is by far the best recreation of TOS to be found. Thank you for such excellent work.

Might I make a couple of suggestions. One is that Spock's eye makeup be reviewed. Nimoy had some dark eye make up on his lids which gave the character greater depth and an enigmatic quality on screen. Without it Spock's face seems [to me] just a little to bright on the screen.

The other is that it has taken since ep 1 to find somewhere to post a comment as the youtube section is always locked out and there doesn't seem to be anywhere else to place a comment. I bet a lot of people would like to share in ST:C excitement if they were given the opportunity. Please consider the idea.

There of course is another Enterprise flying through cyberspace, however, this is the ONLY one that feels like home!

I also found STC by chance and boy was I suppressed, I have watched every episode many many times and enjoy them just as much as the first,,, I have seen other attempts to recreate Star Trek but no one has done it better then you and your crew have, I continue to be impressed with each new show and look forward to many more to come. Great work please keep it up. I think any true fan of the original series feels like you guys have kept the true value and essence of the show.

Since there's nowhere else to post it, I guess this will have to do. What do people think of the Nov 2nd announcement that CBS IS REVIVING STAR TREK as a NEW TV SERIES in 2017 ? {http://www.startrek.com}

I'll be honest ... after so many movies that essentially pointed their middle finger at life-long continuity minded fans, I'm intensely skeptical and untrusting of this news. I sincerely believe STC are the only people to date, since the conclusion of Enterprise, who've gotten the material anywhere close to right, so this CBS announcement is giving me a bad case of the shudders.

Thoughts ?

... and nothing, despite being a highly timely and relevant topic.

I was 14 years old when Star Trek premiered and I have been a life long fan of all things Star Trek ever since. I have seen all the TV versions and all the movies. I love them all. I have read over 150 of the Star Trek uniiverse novels that have been issued. I want to commend you all for a job well done. You have captured the spirit of Star Trek completely. Thank you from a true fan. And I am looking forward to the future STC and the coming TV series also. Gene Roddenberry would have loved Star Trek Continues.

This is just great stuff - episode 5 is just fantastic. I am not only a fan of TOS, but I am a history buff. The re-enactors were terrific and big-time fun to watch. I'd love to see y'all picked up by a big studio/production group (if that is what you wanted, of course).

@Ian Trebor, I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice Spock's lack of eye makeup. It took me a couple of episodes to figure out what was missing from Todd's makeup.

I've been watching and loving Star Trek since the very first episode aired, and same for STC. With episode 5, you raised your own bar. Kudos to everyone involved!

ATMouse... No, no, no... The so-called Big Studios are interested in one thing - making money. What makes STC so successful is their passion for the original series. You can see it in the sets, the lighting, the stories, and above all, the acting. Check out the behind the scenes videos, and you will see a light in everyone's eyes as they work on each episode. This is a labor of love. Throw profit into the mix, and the series will suffer.

Like so many, I found STC by complete accident and fell in love immediately. I wasn't around in the 60s when TOS came out, but I grew up with it all the same. My dad loved it and he shared that love with me. I remember watching old VHS recordings that my grandma had made of the show and thinking it was the most amazing show ever. To this day, TOS has a soft spot in my heart and your show.....it's just awesome! Your attention to detail is incredible and even though it's different actors playing these familiar characters, it still feels like Star Trek. If I had money and time, I would be begging you guys to let me play in your Star Trek orchestra. That looks like so much fun! You guys are awesome! Thanks so much for making this show and I can't wait for the next episode!

Discovered STC after hearing about it on CoasttoCoastAM radio. Watched the first episode & was blown away! I grew up with ST:TOS & STC is spot-on. The sets, lighting, costumes, everything is perfect! Love the actors, especially Mignogna, Huber & Imahara. They get the essential characterization right without trying to do an imitation of the original actors. I love this series. As a result, I donated in the second Kirkstarter & now in the Indiegogo campaign. I can see that cast & crew love what they're doing & have a deep respect for TOS & all of us fans. Thanks STC!!
